Ever wondered what the people on the other side of the valley will be seeing, thinking doing... who they are?

On your way to Ooty through the Sigur Ghats, when the view of the valley becomes breathtaking, a small shelter hangs on the slope... this is the Tusker Valley jungle camp.

Tusker camp site is located on Kalhatti slopes - 20 kms from Mudumalai WLS and 14kms from Ooty . It falls on the rain shadow area of the Nilgiris bio-sphere. The property is 400 acres of prime private wilderness overlooking the plains of the Annekatti forest. The highest point in the property gives a panoramic view of the Annekatti, Mudumalai and the Bandipur forests along the Moyar gorge line. The property also boasts of two waterfalls which flow most of the year except in the summer.

At the campsite there are good chances of sighting wildlife provided you keep the noise levels low. There is resident wildlife in the property gaurs, elephants, wild boars, bears to name a few.

Accommodation: A safe shelter from the winds and seasonal rain, each room has a smaller room within, a common bathroom and toilet. Room can accommodate four comfortably. There is ample open space for tents with access to the toilets and bathrooms.

In addition, there are a set of six row houses facing the stream in the valley – tastefully done with spacious and airy interiors. The sit-out outside these rooms has excellent views of the stream – on a quite day, there are good chances of sighting wildlife sitting out here. A true jungle experience.

Food: Basic Indian Veg & N Veg. Barbeques in the evening around campfire can be organised on request. If the group is larger than 20 specific menu can be planned.

Activities: There are numerous trails inside the property where one can do short 2-3 hour walks along the stream, to the waterfalls.

For those interested in longer moderately difficult walks there are a few options.

Local guides well aware of the trails and the flora fauna will accompany the group. Communication might be a hindrance as the locals speak only Tamil and Kannada. If the group is larger than 15 an English speaking guide can be made available.

Other activities possible are Canyoning, rock climbing and rappelling which needs early planning as the equipment and experts need to travel from Bangalore.
