Hodgson's Camp: When we mention the name Ooty to any camping guy he would frown, but little does he know of the treasure trove of camping and trekking possibilities in and around the town. One among these camping heavens is Parsons Valley , 30 kms from the town of Ooty in the western direction. The campsite is a little piece of private land surrounded by the Reserve forest of the Mukurti Sanctuary, parson's dam, western catchment. It is located at over 7000 ft that makes the days pleasant and the night's cold whatever time of the year. It is an ideal base to explore the Mukurti Range or just put your feet up and absorb the exotic mountain freshness.

In fact this is the place where the first rainbow trout fish was released into the Mukurti River and it has history of being host to Maharaja of Mysore many times and his entire guest from other princely states in the past. Not to forget the English.

Accommodation: Hodgson's Hut: Hogdson built this fishing hut Hundred years ago when he first came here to release rainbow trout. He gifted the hut to Nilgiris Game Association when he left the place. The hut is completely restored with fire place and modern bathroom.

Two modern cottages and 25 bedded dorm. Loads of place
to pitch tents.

Food: Is veg and N veg. simple Indian menu. Special requests can be catered.

Sight seeing trips can be organised to Western Catchment area.

This is great country to drive around. Winding sections of roads with little traffic or none and gorgeous views of the back waters make it really interesting

Treks: Numerous trails open onto the Mukurti reserve forest. The views are great and the place gives a feeling of hiking in the lower Himalayas , only the snow covered peaks are missing. Trek duration can be anything from few hours
to 5 days. There are good chances of viewing wildlife with some endemic species like the Nilgiri langur and Nilgiri Thar. Getting entry into the forest is an uphill task but once you have it is party time.
