About the trip

This trek in the Garhwal Himalayas is probably one of the finest of the short ones that one can go for. On this trek one gets to camp next to a high lake, tread through one of the densest reserved forests of North India, walk through alpine meadows and climb a 3950m peak to get fabulous view of the snow clad Himalayas.

Starting from Haridwar you drive to the base camp, Verdant Valley and spend a pleasant evening there. Next day you start on your trek and move up to the majestically situated, Deoriatal (lake). You continue walking the trail from here to reach the alpine meadows of Chopta, the base for our climb to Chandrashila peak (3950m). On your way to the summit of the peak you pass the ancient Shiva temple of Tungnath. On a clear day the mesmerising views from Tungnath and the summit of Chandrashila peak is a sight to behold. Last day of your trip you will either raft on the Ganga or Alaknanda River before catching the train for Delhi

Cost Inclusive of

1.    All road transfers by private vehicles from Haridwar to Haridwar.
2.    Accommodation will be provided throughout the trip as mentioned in the itinerary on twin sharing basis.
3.    Meals: As per itinerary. Tea /coffee, snacks & drinking water during the trek. All meals would be vegetarian. The cuisine would be a mix of Indian, Chinese, Continental & Local.
4.    English speaking & professionally trained mountain guide.
5.    Kitchen staff would accompany the group on the trek.
6.    Porters / Mules will carry one bag per client ( not to exceed 20 Kgs)
7.    Camping equipment: 3/4 season tents (Mountain Hardwear, Black Diamond or similar), sleeping bags, ground mattress, mess tent & camping tables & stools.
8.    All trekking permits and park entry fees.
9.    First Aid Kit.

Itinerary

DAY 01: DELHI – HARIDWAR
Arrive the previous night in Delhi. The day can be spent visiting old Delhi and other historical monuments. Take the late night train from Delhi for Haridwar.

DAY 02: HARIDWAR - KUND (1350m, Drive 200 kms /5-6 hrs)
Set in terrace fields on the banks of river Mandakini with views of the snow capped Kedar peak, camp VV is great for a start. Here we stay in comfortable cottage tents which have beds and attached toilets/showers. Post lunch we will go down to the river at the campsite and spend some time there. In the evening we will walk for a short distance to the Ukhimath temple to see the evening ceremony.
Overnight in cottage tents.

DAY 03: KUND - DEORIATAL (2438m, trek /4-5 HRS)
Depending on the inclination of the group, we drive for about an hour to reach Sari village and then hike for over an hour to the lake or start trekking from the camp or very close to it and trek for about 4-5 hours to reach Deoriatal. This beautiful lake has meadows and forest all around it and some big mountains in the backdrop. The reflection of the mighty Chaukhamba peaks on the waters of the lake is a sight to behold. We will set up camp next to the lake.
Overnight in tents.

DAY 04: DEORIATAL - CHOPTA (2600m, trek /5-6 hrs)
Today we walk mostly on ridges and mixed forests to reach the beautiful campsite near Chopta. Chopta is famous for its undulating meadows and views of the snow clad Himalayan ranges and lies inside a reserved forest region. Also known as the Switzerland of India, it's a great place to camp on. Sunset from here is truly celestial. Overnight in tents.

DAY 05: CHOPTA - CHANDRASHILA PEAK (3950m) - CHOPTA (2600m, round trek / 5-6 hrs) - CAMP VERDANT VALLEY/CAMP HIGH V (drive 2-3 hrs)
After an early breakfast we climb up to the highest Shiva shrine at Tungnath (3680m). It's one of the most beautifully situated temples with mammoth mountain ranges towering in front of it. This temple has very interesting architecture and rich history behind it. After taking a short rest we climb up for a km through a steep trail to reach the summit of Chandrashilla peak (3950m). The view from the summit is outstanding with one getting almost a 360 view of Himalayan ranges. Many of the famous summits like the Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, Neelkanth, Kedarnath & Bandarpoonch are visible from here. Late afternoon we head back to Chopta and from there drive to either camp Verdant Valley or camp High V.
Overnight in tents in a fixed camp.

DAY 06: CAMP VV/HIGH V - HARIDWAR – DELHI
After breakfast go for a session of river rafting on the Alaknanda or drive down to Shivpuri and raft on the Ganga. Evening drive to Haridwar and catch the Shatabdi express train for Delhi. Arrive in Delhi by 10:40 p.m.
