About the trip

A 7 day self-contained river journey through a lesser-known part of eastern Kumaon and western Nepal. The river demarcates the border between India and Nepal, and we pass through thick tropical jungles, terraced fields of Nepali and Kumaoni villages, distinctive from each other in architecture
and people. This is a journey of discovery and excitement suited to first-time rafters and adventurous families.

Cost Inclusive of

1.    Train from Delhi to Delhi
2.    All road transfers by private vehicles from Kathgodam to Kathgodam.
3.    Accommodation will be provided throughout the trip as mentioned in the itinerary on twin sharing basis.
4.    Meals: As per itinerary. Tea /coffee, snacks & drinking water during the trek. All meals would be vegetarian. The cuisine would be a mix of Indian, Chinese, Continental & Local.
5.    English speaking & professionally trained river guides.
6.    Kitchen staff would accompany the group on the expedition.
7.    All special equipment required for the expedition.
8.    Camping equipment: 3/4 season tents, ground mattress, mess tent & camping tables & stools.
9.    All permits and park entry fees.
10.  First Aid Kit.

Itinerary

Day 00 : Overnight train  Ranikhet Express, from Delhi to Kathgodam.

Day 01: Transfer by HRR jeeps to Pithoragarh (approx.07 hrs drive). Overnight at A Hotel,  in the lap of the Kumaon Himalayas, with magnificent views of the Panchuli range of  mountains.

Day 02: A 2 hr drive to Jhulaghat, the put-in point. Raft approx. 15 river kms through an initiation stretch with class II + rapids,  passing awe inspiring stalactite & stalagmite limestone formations. Camp by late afternoon on a beautiful sand bank and hike to nearby village.

Day 03 : We continue our river journey through picturesque countryside. The
Kali confluences with the Sarju river today to form the Sarda at
Pancheshwar, famous for sport fishing for Mahseer. We camp just below the confluence for an afternoon of angling delight or take a short hike to the legendary Pancheshwar Temple, situated just above the confluence.

Day 04 :   The river picks up pace as we go through a series of Class III rapids amidst thick jungles and a lesser inhabited stretch of the river. Camp overnight at a beautiful secluded beach near a fresh water spring. An
afternoon hike in Nepal up a picturesque side valley ends a beautiful day in these isolated environs.

Day 05 :  We continue our rafting through quiet river stretches with plenty of chances to Spot wildlife along the banks  langur, barking deer and the frisky yellow throated martins hopping along the rocky shorelines. We end a perfect day by negotiating the mighty Chooka rapid, a big volume Class IV- biggest rapid of  the river ! We camp just below this rapid  on a pretty beach.           

Day 06 : We take a rest from rafting and explore the surrounding countryside, hiking to the charming 'Viceroy's fishing lodge', a left-over relic of the British Raj. Stories abound of the man eating tigers of Thak and Chuka, the nearby villages , where Jim Corbett shot them in these jungles in the late 1930's.Overnight tented camp.

Day 07 : Great white water day today with plenty of rapids surrounded by the thick terai jungles. If we are lucky we may even spot a wild elephant! We finish our expedition at Boom, where the mighty Kali enters the plains of India, to be generally referred to as the Sharda river. After lunch a 3 hr drive to Kathgodam railway station to connect to the overnight Ranikhet Express departing 9:15 pm. And reaching New Delhi at 5:15 am the next morning.
