In the past when the jumbo tuskers roamed the Segur ghats of Nilgiris no one dared venture into the forest. It was popularly known as the TUSKER Valley then. Today we still bump into the occasional tusker but nothing compared to what the earlier generation encountered - sad but true.

On this trip you will explore the beautiful Segur and the Sholur wilderness. You will experience the rugged landscape and stunning views of magnificent mountains around here. The area is well protected under the Nilgiri Bio-sphere project.

The Plan:

Day 0: Depart from Bangalore in an overnight bus.

Day 1: Reach campsite for break fast. Relax. We will not be doing much on the first day. Short walks around campsite will be the plan.

Day 2: Sholur trail: This is a very interesting walk. From Sholur we walk into the Mudumalai reserve forest, Walk on the horse trail that was constructed by the Brits. The trail leads into a Valley with some pretty views of the rock-faces. You walk along a stream before you cross a bridge and climb onto a saddle, and then walk down to Bokkapuram (Masinagudi). The walk will be a good 12 kms most of which is in the reserve forest. Good chances of sighting the jumbos, bears and gaurs. It will take anything between 4-6 hrs depending on the fitness, speed of walk. From Masinagudi a jeep will pick u up and drop to the camp.

Day 3: Bellikal: Bellikal means silver stone that is how the rocks on this hill look. It is at least a 150 mtrs higher than the campsite. The climb is steep and you walk in private estates and reserve forests. The views from Bellikal are gorgeous with many many view points. The entire walk will be 5-6 hrs.

Break Camp in the evening.

The treks start at 7 a.m. on all trek days and we will be back to the camp for lunch. We will carry packed breakfast along with trail food. The rest of the day will be at the campsite. One can walk around or sit by the stream for wildlife spotting.

Campfire will be part of the evening rituals.
Food served will be vegetarian.
