Kottebetta - The Fort Mountain ..............................................................................................................................................
Kottebetta – in literal translation means Fort Mountain – for it looks like a fort in a distance. It is the third highest peak in Coorg at 5451 ft (1652mtr) – located in the north of Coorg. The trek takes one through Shola forest and grasslands in undisturbed pristine wilderness.
The Trail:
Estimated length of the trail 26 km
The trail begins in a quite village road following a stream on one side and coffee plantations on the other. It is a 6km trail on this isolated road to the village Hamiyala – which is all a bunch of houses and a school – this is end of the road. The trail then branches up hill, to a grassy trail leading up to the first ridge where u get the first glimpse of Kottebetta. The trail from here winds up unexplored routes up the ridge for some amazing views of the Western Ghats mountain range.
A Shiva temple on top makes it a sacred place. The entire trail navigates through
Shola forests and grasslands with mountain streams gurgling out from the Shola Forests.
Camping will be on grasslands and streamside patches
fresh food will be served close to the villages, as we get deep into the trail we will be carrying packed food.
Tents, sleeping bags, first-aid kit will be carried along
It is a self-sustained trip therefore; participants will have to carry their own gear.
We will have a local guide leading other than getoff~ guide for local information and conversations
The area is very less populated and rich in Coorg culture
