Popularly known as Curzon trail because of former Viceroy George Nathaniel Curson's love for the area, the pass reaches an elevation of 4268m / 13990ft. This is a moderate trek passing through dense forests of oak, pine, rhododendron, fir and deodar traversing Bugyals and numerous streams. The trail has the most enchanting views of the Himalayan peaks including the many peaks around Nanda Devi . Panoramic views of the great Himalaya , verdant alpine pastures and vast stretches of valley are visible on this trek. You will walk through Auli, Gorson bugyal, Gailgarh, Kuari pass, Khulara and Tapovan before heading back for the road head.
Plan
Day 1: Leave Delhi for Kathgodam by overnight train
Day 2: Kathgodam to Karnaprayag by cab / jeep
Day 3: Karnaprayag - Auli by jeep
Day 4: Auli - Gorson - trek (7 kms)
Day 5: Gorson - Tali - trek (5 kms)
Day 6: Tali - Kuari Pass - trek (12 kms)
Day 7: Kuari Pass - Khulara - trek (12 kms)
Day 8: Khulara - Tapovan - trek (10 kms)
Day 9: Tapovan -Karnaprayag by cab/jeep
Day 10: Karnaprayag - Kathgodam for train to Delhi
