Nubra Valley: The tour of Nubra starts from Leh and follows the old caravan trade route to Central Asia, a “Feeder” of the famous Silk Route. It takes in the world highest motorable pass – Khardung La, pretty villages with banks of wild flowers and stands of willow and poplar, valley covered with seabuckthorn shrubs, stretches of sand dunes and double humped Bactrian camels, remote monasteries and medicinal hot springs.
Where rest of Ladakh is arid and barren, Nubra blooms and blossoms in many colours. It is a small stretch of land between 3 and 5 km wide at the foot of Karakoram ranges.
Diskit: The largest village in Nubra Valley has the regions only bazaar. It also has a 17th century Gompa with exquisite murals and houses about 100 monks. The Gompa roof offers glorious views of the valley.
Hunder: Is one of the farthest corners of our country that any of us can visit. Entry is restricted further from this point b’cos of the battles that our Army fights with Pakistan Army in the highest battle field of Siachen Glacier. Siachen is 80kms from here. Hunder is a sleepy little town known for its double humped camels (Bactrian Camels) and fascinating vistas of sand dunes not unlike the Sahara – if you can ignore the snow capped mountain views.
