Mukurti - Jewel in the Nilgiri's crown

It's hard to capture the beauty of Mukurti in words. Imagine a crystal like dew drop, hanging on for dear life to the fronds of a pale green lichen. You look through the dew drop, and a wonderland expands in front of you. Rolling green hills adorned with Rhododendron bushes displaying their crimson red flowers, serene lakes, stunning trails with striking similarities to the Lower Himalayan Ranges . The crisp, cold mountain air rejuvenates your senses and the endemic Nilgiri langurs welcome you with their booming calls as they jump from one branch to another, And slowly, you begin to visualize what must be among the most perfect trekking destinations in South India . In absolute wilderness.

Getting to base camp through the steep & remote jungle roads is exciting enough. But once you are there, the hills will capture your imagination instantly. Simple, but tasty & hot food will give you the energy boost, required for the upcoming climb and even the laziest of vacationers will look towards Mukurti peak with longing. The trek itself never fails to live up to expectations. It can be done in a day by even moderately experienced trekkers and the path abounds with flora and fauna.

One thing for sure - this is one trek that will leave you breathless. Literally!

Plan

Day 1: Meet at Ooty for pick up from common point. Drive to Trekking hut. Lunch, relax. Short walk to the lake.

Day 2: after early breakfast, start trek to Mukurti peak. Carry packed lunch. Return to hut for tea and relax.

Day 3: Take it easy, after breakfast short trek to water falls (small one)
Pack up after lunch and head back to Ooty. Explore the town.
